A four-day workshop will take place in Gyumri, Armenia from November 4-8, 2016. There will be 10-15 women artists from varying age groups and marital statuses. The workshop preference is for Gyumri-based artists, but is not restricted to this criteria. Artworks generated in this workshop will be featured in the exhibit Codex: Illuminating Women’s Experience Through Contemporary Manuscripts, curated by HAY-P Pop Up Gallery that opens November 18, 2016 in Gyumri.

Workshop Content:

Two forms of hand-made books will be produced:

1) A more complex “Coptic Stitch Journal”

2) A simpler pamphlet version

Participants will build books using traditional techniques of paste paper along with hand carved stamps and other mark making techniques. Book binding, collaging techniques, and techniques to work in to the books will be taught.

Workshop activities will alternate between book making, writing, and story-sharing.

Each participant will receive a small stipend for daily compensation of their time away from work/responsibilities.
