In March of 2016, Suzi Banks Baum spent two weeks in Gyumri, Armenia interviewing women artists about their creative practice and the challenges they face. These interviews were recorded in the form of notes, photographs, audio recordings, and some video footage. New Illuminations will create an archive of these experiences and records that will also be featured in the exhibition, CODEX: Illuminating Women’s Stories in Contemporary Manuscripts (november 18-28, 2016). The process of interviewing began in March of 2016 and is an on-going research endeavor. More information coming soon.
